Iranian drones attack Nakhchivan airport… Azerbaijan summons Tehran’s ambassador
Azerbaijan accused Iran on Thursday of launching two drones onto its territory, an attack that injured two people. Baku said it had summoned the Iranian ambassador to deliver a strong protest.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that one of the drones crashed at an airport in Nakhchivan, near the border with Iran, while the other fell near a school.
Nakhchivan International Airport is located about ten kilometers from the Iranian border.
In a statement, the ministry condemned the attacks and demanded an explanation from Iran, adding that Azerbaijan reserves the right to take “appropriate response measures.”
The Ministry of Defense also announced that “Azerbaijan is preparing to take the necessary response measures to protect the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and to ensure the safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure,” stressing that “these acts of aggression will not go unanswered.”
