One Year On, Israel Accused of 5,000 Violations of the Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

The government media office in the Gaza Strip has accused Israel of committing more than 5,000 violations of the ceasefire agreement, nearly one year after it came into effect.

In a statement, the Hamas-run media office said that “after a full year since the ceasefire agreement took effect in the Gaza Strip, Israel has demonstrated its complete abandonment of all its obligations”.

It said the alleged Israeli violations had made the humanitarian and relief situation across the territory extremely dangerous and catastrophic at every level, adding that hundreds of thousands of displaced people now faced potentially deadly consequences.

According to the statement, Israel committed 5,147 violations of the agreement, resulting in the deaths of 1,421 Palestinians and injuries to another 4,983. It also reportedly detained 198 Palestinians from Gaza.

Addressing the entry of supplies through Gaza’s border crossings, the media office said Israel had allowed fewer than 73 trucks to enter, out of the 210,000 vehicles carrying humanitarian assistance, relief supplies and reconstruction materials that were supposed to reach the territory.

The office also said the Israeli military had imposed strict restrictions on passenger movement. Only 13,785 people were reportedly permitted to leave, out of the 35,000 travellers who were expected to be allowed to enter or exit the Gaza Strip.

“We are sounding the alarm over an impending catastrophe as winter approaches, with more than 1.5 million displaced people currently living in dilapidated tents,” the statement said.

According to the same source, there are now 270,000 tents across Gaza, 162,000 of which are worn out and no longer fit for use.
