US authorities have said that four law enforcement officers were shot dead and four others injured yesterday, Monday, in a gun battle that erupted while they were executing an arrest warrant for a fugitive in a house in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to Reuters news agency, the Charlotte police said that the fugitive who opened fire on the officers upon their arrival at the house was shot dead during an exchange of gunfire, adding that authorities arrested two other suspects.
