At the Beginning of 2024… A unique astronomical phenomenon adorns the sky on this date
The Moscow Astronomical Dome Center confirmed that people on Earth will be able to witness a distinctive astronomical phenomenon at the beginning of the year 2024.
In a statement issued by the center, it was mentioned, “With the start of the new year, residents of several regions on Earth will be able to observe the Quadrantids meteor shower, which will occur from December 28, 2023, to January 12, 2024. However, it will reach its peak on the night of January 2 to 3.”
The center released a statement revealing that “the meteor shower will be radiant in the sky, and the meteors will appear under the handle of the Big Dipper in the Ursa Major constellation.”
According to the predictions of the International Meteor Organization, on the night of January 2 to 3, 2024, it is expected that Earth’s inhabitants will witness about 120 falling meteors per hour in the sky, provided that the sky is clear and observation conditions are favorable.
The best time for meteor observation on the mentioned night, according to astronomers, will be the second half of the night, and they can be observed by looking towards the northeastern horizon.
