Flying over the pyramids… a dream come true thanks to paragliding.
A group of professional and enthusiastic pilots flew over the Egyptian pyramids in Giza on Friday, enjoying a unique view of one of the wonders of the ancient world.
This event is organized by “Sky One,” an Egyptian company specializing in paragliding since 2017, allowing participating pilots to soar above the pyramids at a height of about 200 meters.
The organizers of the event explained that the participants on Friday were a Brazilian group of professional paragliders who delighted in seeing the pyramids from above. They will also enjoy a similar view of Luxor and the Marsa Alam resort overlooking the Red Sea in the coming days.
Tourist and Brazilian paraglider pilot Thiago Sacarniero said, “It’s a big dream to be here. My friends and I from Brazil are extremely happy because today this dream will come true by flying over the pyramids.”
Samah Mubarak, the Business Development Manager at Sky One, said, “Paragliding has been popular outside of Egypt for many years, but it is relatively new to Egypt.” He added that their company considers paragliding not only as a sport but also as a means to boost tourism by offering a different perspective to visitors. “We provide tourist programs for guests who have come to visit Egypt so that they can see our tourist attractions from a different angle,” he said, according to Reuters.
On his part, Egyptian paraglider pilot Omar Nassim said, “It is a form of gliding, but the advantage of paragliding is that it has an engine. Takeoff and landing are done from the ground, so you don’t have to look for a high location to take off from, and as a result, you can capture the exact picture you want.”
