Unwavering Support from London: Zelensky Becomes First Visitor to Britain’s New Prime Minister

Britain’s new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, will receive Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday, making him the first foreign leader to visit the new prime minister.

London has consistently sought to reaffirm its unwavering support for Ukraine.

According to the British Prime Minister’s Office, Burnham and Zelensky are expected to meet at a naval base, where they will receive a briefing on how British-led training programs are helping strengthen the capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces and deliver results on the battlefield.

In a statement, Burnham said: “Britain stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine, and our support for it remains steadfast and unwavering. Russia should have no doubt about the extent of our determination, and we will not step back until we achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.”

During their visit, Burnham and Zelensky will also meet with more than 200 members of the Ukrainian armed forces and Ukrainian sailors, who have spent the past three weeks in Britain participating in the “Sea Breeze” exercise focused on maritime security and mine countermeasures. The training is designed to prepare them for future missions in the Black Sea.

According to Burnham’s office, Britain’s total support for Ukraine has reached £25 billion ($33.3 billion) since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. This includes £16 billion in military assistance and £5.6 billion in non-military support.
