Giant “Scary” Doll Shocks Residents in Rochdale, UK

Residents of Rochdale, UK, expressed their shock at the appearance of a giant “scary” baby doll in the town square.

The doll “Lily”, standing 8.5 meters tall, arrived in the center of Rochdale as part of a project encouraging children to talk about climate change. The city council stated that the giant doll, named “Lily”, was part of a project aimed at encouraging children to discuss climate change.

However, the giant doll was met with mixed reactions, with local residents taking to social media to express their fear of the “strange” baby. The city council welcomed the doll through a post on its official “X” platform (formerly Twitter), noting that it would be the special guest at the outdoor environmental arts festival “Wild Wonders”, organized by the council next month.

The council also invited local school pupils to attend this week to “share their thoughts on the future of our environment.”

Nevertheless, residents were noticeably less enthusiastic about the doll’s arrival, with one commenting, “This is terrifying.” Others described the doll as “extremely frightening,” while another simply referred to the American horror TV series by saying, “Chucky.”

Responding to a social media user who said the doll would have given them “nightmares for months if they had seen it as a child,” the council replied: “Luckily, the baby is just a doll; otherwise, she would be upset by that comment. This event is for young children, and they love her. The response has been fantastic.”

Many people also questioned whether the giant baby was a good use of funds. One asked, “How much does this nonsense cost?” while another wrote, “A great piece of art. Meanwhile, most children have empty stomachs.”

The council defended the doll, pointing out that its construction was funded by the Arts Council England and the local charity “Garfield Weston.”

They added: “School groups have visited the town square to talk with the doll about its thoughts on climate change and its plans to care for nature and animals.”
