Hammouchi’s Security Achievements Under Spanish Scrutiny

Abdellatif Hammouchi has transformed Morocco into an oasis of peace and stability in a region marked by tensions in areas like Libya and the African Sahel.

The Director General of Moroccan National Security, Abdellatif Hammouchi, has become a pivotal figure in strengthening security and combating terrorism, organized crime, and human trafficking, not only in Morocco but also globally. This has made Rabat a beacon of stability in a region plagued by unrest, particularly in Libya and the Sahel.

Hammouchi has successfully implemented significant reforms within the security forces, allowing them to thwart numerous terrorist attacks and criminal gang operations. His efforts have been praised by many countries, including France and Spain, which have honored him for his contributions.

He has become a key partner for global security agencies, working to restore security and maintain stability amidst the numerous developments and terrorist threats in the region, particularly due to the tensions in Libya and the Sahel-Sahara region, along with the worsening issue of illegal immigration.

Today, Hammouchi is regarded as one of the most prominent security officials, with a deep understanding of how jihadist cells operate, both on the ground and in the digital realm, which has become another battlefield between these organizations and intelligence agencies. Western media describe Morocco as an oasis of security and stability in a troubled region, thanks to Hammouchi’s efforts.

The Spanish newspaper Atalayar published a report on Thursday highlighting the personality and achievements of the Director General of Moroccan National Security, detailing the reform path he initiated, which has positioned Morocco as a key player in the global fight against crime and terrorism.

Under the title Hammouchi: The Leader Who Shaped Morocco’s Security History”, the newspaper noted that “thanks to his strategic vision aimed at protecting citizens and contributing to both regional and international stability, Hammouchi has significantly transformed Morocco’s security, making the kingdom a vital player in international efforts to counter contemporary threats such as terrorism and transnational crime.”

The article continues, stating that “Hammouchi‘s major security reforms are based on an integrated, multi-dimensional approach, significantly enhancing national security and regional stability. This approach is grounded in principles of innovation, proactivity, cooperation, information sharing, and security personnel training, with a strong focus on humanitarian values like tolerance and peaceful coexistence.”

The report also discussed Hammouchi’s professional career and his notable expertise in security. After the dismantling of the September 11 attacks, he became a key partner for the Americans in counterterrorism. In December 2005, King Mohammed VI appointed him head of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) at the age of 39. In 2015, he became the first person to lead both the DGST and National Security.

Under his leadership, Morocco has become a leading model in counterterrorism and transnational crime, earning international praise for its effective dismantling of terrorist plots and criminal networks. Security and diplomatic cooperation with many countries has been strengthened, further solidifying Morocco’s position as a global security power.

The newspaper also highlighted that under Hammouchi’s leadership, Morocco’s police force has been modernized through system and operational reforms, improved efficiency, enhanced social welfare for security personnel, and opened its doors to women in law enforcement. He also established an international training center for Moroccan and African security personnel in Ifrane.

The outcomes of these reforms have been recognized both domestically and internationally. Today, Morocco is acknowledged as a leader in counterterrorism and a key player in the fight against transnational crime, with almost no terrorist risk, according to the Global Terrorism Index.

The report also cited Morocco’s success in organizing political, sports, and cultural events under Hammouchi’s security leadership, including the 2023 Arab Police Chiefs Conference and the African Football Cup tournaments.

In conclusion, Hammouchi has been honored by numerous countries, including France, Spain, and the UAE. He enjoys high security trust, solidifying Morocco’s strategic partnerships with nations around the world.
