Iran threatens International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
Iran has claimed that there are those who incite against it at the IAEA and push for the adoption of an anti-Iran resolution.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, in a tweet today, held the sponsors of the anti-Iran resolution in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) “responsible for all the repercussions of their threats”, stressing that the agreement in Vienna “is within reach if the US and the three European countries show realism”, AFP reported.
Amir Abdollahian tweeted: “He has consulted with EU foreign affairs Chief Josep Borrell on lifting the embargo and how to continue negotiations”.
He added: “If the sponsors of the anti-Iran draft resolution in the IAEA Board of Governors adopt a threatening approach, they will be responsible for all the consequences”, he said. His country welcomed a good, strong and sustainable agreement.
The Iranian Foreign Minister promised yesterday an “immediate” response to any political step in the meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors next week, as Western countries are preparing a draft resolution calling on Tehran to cooperate with the UN agency.
This came hours before the IAEA Board of Governors opened in Vienna today with a Western draft resolution blaming Iran, amid stalled talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal.
The text, prepared by the United States and the G3 (Britain, France and Germany), urges Tehran to cooperate fully with the IAEA.
If adopted by the 35 member states of the Council, which is meeting at the Agency’s headquarters in Austria until next Friday, it will be the first decisive decision since June 2020, and it is an indication of the impatience of Westerners.
The Vienna-based UN agency claimed in a report that Iran had not provided adequate explanations about the traces of nuclear material found at three undeclared sites of such activities – Marivan, Ramin, and Torquzabad.
