Johnny Depp avoids a new trial

Johnny Depp allegedly hit director Gregg “Rocky” Brooks in the ribs and told him: “I’ll give you $100,000 if you hit me in the face right away.”

Johnny Depp doesn’t want to try his luck with another jury. Having just emerged from his victory in the television trial that pitted him against his ex-wife Amber Heard, the actor reached a last-minute deal to avoid a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles over allegations that he hit a director on City of Lies filming in 2017.

Gregg “Rocky” Brooks’ lawsuit was scheduled to begin July 25 in Los Angeles County Superior Court after years of delay. The preliminary hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, was removed from the schedule after a “notice of settlement of the whole case” was sent to the judge on Monday.

“The settlement agreement makes the dismissal of this case conditional upon the satisfactory fulfillment of the specified conditions,” said Brooks’ counsel. It is stated that a final request for rejection will be filed by 5 January 2023, assuming that the undisclosed terms of the Private Deal are respected.

According to Brooks’ 2018 complaint, Depp exploded in anger on April 13, 2017 when Brooks told him that he only had time for one last shot of a scene because the two license extensions Brooks had obtained to extend filming late at night were about to expire. “Who the hell are you? You have no right to tell me what to do, Depp reportedly yelled at Brooks. I don’t care who you are, and you don’t have the right to tell me what to do! ”

Depp hit Brooks “forcefully” twice in the rib cage while his breath reeked of alcohol, according to the record. Seeing that Brooks refused to defend himself, Depp reportedly shouted: “I’ll give you $100,000 to hit me in the face right away,” according to the complaint.

City of Lies is a 2018 thriller film based on the unsolved murders of rap stars Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. Depp portrayed former Los Angeles police detective Russell Poole.
