Major Solar Flare Affects Earth’s Magnetic Field
Taha Tawfiq Rabah, acting head of the National Institute of Astronomical and Geophysical Research in Egypt, announced that a solar flare, the largest in the current solar activity cycle, occurred last Thursday at 5:00 PM Cairo time.
He explained that the flare was observed surrounded by the solar corona in all directions.
In the same context, Tarek Arafa, director of the magnetic observatories at the institute, pointed out that the impact of the flare was clearly noticeable, with a sudden increase in the value of the Earth’s magnetic field recorded in the regions of Mesalat, north of Fayoum, and Abu Simbel, south of Egypt, at 6:30 PM local time.

Arafa also predicted that a strong magnetic storm could last for one or two days, due to the arrival of high-energy solar winds from the flare on Saturday, October 5.
He added that the magnetic observatories are on alert to monitor this event due to its scientific significance.
