Moroccan Sahara: International Ministerial Meeting Promotes ‘Consular Diplomacy’

A ministerial meeting to be held soon by Morocco for the countries that have opened consulates in the southern provinces of the Kingdom reinforces the dynamic of positive development on the issue of territorial integrity.

The forthcoming international meeting announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, following the opening of the Consulate General of the Republic of Cape Verde in Dakhla,

During a joint press conference with his Cape Verdean counterpart, Rui Alberto de Figueiredo Soares, the minister said that in the next few months, a meeting will be held, whether in Laayoune or Dakhla, bringing together all the countries that have opened consulates in the southern provinces, to confirm this dynamism and create greater coordination between these countries.

He added that this initiative is part of the strengthening of the dynamism of opening consulates, which King Mohammed VI stressed in his speech on the occasion of commemorating the revolution of the King and the people, as part of the positive development of the issue of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

Bourita stressed that the king’s assertion that “about 40% of African countries have opened consulates in Laayoune and Dakhla” reflects the general trend within the African continent in favor of supporting Morocco’s territorial integrity and its legitimate rights over this part of its territory.

With the opening of the Republic of Cape Verde’s consulate in Dakhla, the number of consulates opened in the Kingdom’s southern provinces rises to 27, spread between the cities of Dakhla 15 and Laayoune 12.
