Strong Storms Hit Europe, Leaving One Dead in Serbia


A woman was killed due to a severe storm that struck Serbia on Friday, coinciding with heavy rain affecting areas across Europe.

Serbian authorities reported that a woman died when a tree fell on her car as a result of a strong storm in the city of Sombor.

A state of emergency was also declared in the city of Novi Pazar in the western part of the country due to unprecedented rainfall, according to the Spanish newspaper “20 Minutos”.

Germany experienced heavy rainfall leading to floods in the state of Saarland, the region most affected by the weather conditions.

The newspaper reported that authorities declared a “catastrophic situation” in Saarland, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the area.

The French department of Somme was also impacted by strong storms and heavy rains, causing significant landslides in several municipalities.

According to the report, the Somme River received 40 mm of water, equivalent to a month’s worth of rain in May.

Slovenia also experienced strong rainstorms with reported material damages and flooding in some rivers, while the UK and Spain faced similar conditions.
