“Terrorism and Extremism in Europe from the Inside”: A Book Warns of the Dangers of the Muslim Brotherhood

The book “Terrorism and Extremism in Europe from the Inside” diagnoses extremism and terrorism in Europe as being local phenomena rather than imported or transboundary. Violent Islamist extremism in Europe has become a self-propelling force, which is what distinguishes this book.

According to an analysis published by the “European Center for the Study of Terrorism and Intelligence,” the first chapter of the book addresses extremism and terrorism in Europe in all its forms: terrorism by Islamist groups, “jihadism,” political Islam, as well as extreme right-wing, liberal, and leftist extremism. The book analyzes and addresses the internal factors of extremism, including the activities of jihadist groups, lone wolf operations, and the activities of political Islam under various fronts such as associations, cultural centers, and extremist platforms.

The book warns about the dangers posed by the Muslim Brotherhood and political Islam, highlighting their creation of parallel communities within Europe, which poses a direct threat to European national security. It argues that societal approaches to combating extremism are now more necessary than simply deploying forces and militarizing security in Europe.

The book also discusses external factors of extremism that have become sources of threat to European security, particularly external funding for extremist groups and political Islam, as well as geopolitical threats through the opening of several fronts: Syria, Libya, Iraq, the Eastern Mediterranean, West Africa, and Nagorno-Karabakh, with a forward-looking analysis of the implications for EU security.

The book does not overlook the dangers of extreme right-wing movements in Europe, relying on reports from European intelligence agencies and senior government officials, which are beginning to threaten democratic systems in Europe.

The second chapter addresses the dangers of Iranian intelligence activities, including espionage networks, targeting Iranian opposition, and modern information and technology threats, as well as the implementation of offensive cyberattacks by Iranian intelligence against European countries to steal information and research.

The book also discusses the reasons for the banning of Hezbollah in several European countries and the prohibition of activities by associated associations and centers, as they also represent a threat to democratic systems and security in Europe.
