UK: Two Children Killed and 11 Seriously Injured in Knife Attack
Two children were killed and 11 people, including six children, were injured in a knife attack in Southport, north-west England, on Monday, according to police.
AFP reported that police arrested a 17-year-old suspect for murder following the attack in Southport, near Liverpool, noting that the motives are still unclear.
Merseyside police official Serena Kennedy said the attack is not currently being treated as “terrorism”.
She explained that “the children were attending an activity about the American singer Taylor Swift at a dance school when the attacker entered with a knife and began attacking them”.
Describing the incident as a “fierce attack”, Kennedy announced that two children had been killed and nine people injured, six of whom are in critical condition.
She also stated that two adults were critically injured, likely as they attempted to “protect” the children.
Kennedy noted that “all the injured were stabbed”.
