Zelensky’s Visit to Morocco “A Matter of Time”… Intensive Arrangements

Arrangements are underway in Morocco for a possible visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, expected to address the war and bilateral relations.

Sergiy Saienko, the Ukrainian ambassador to Rabat, said that “President Volodymyr Zelensky‘s visit to Morocco is being worked on, it’s just a matter of time”.

He added in statements to Moroccan media that mutual visits “are already a good sign of the credibility of political contacts between the two countries, and we will continue in the same direction”.

He also said, “I will also invite our trade representatives to visit Morocco to facilitate future bilateral communications between companies, which is also important because we need to agree on many areas of cooperation”.

The Ukrainian ambassador addressed the repercussions of the war in his country, stating that “this war has a huge impact on the entire region, in Europe and the Mediterranean; prices in the South Mediterranean are inflamed, in addition to many other consequences”.

He continued, “We need to intensify our dialogue to explain exactly what happened to the world and establish a necessary alliance to support the international order, and support Ukraine in particular”.

He redefined what his country means by “victory” in the war, explaining that “the victory of Ukrainians is the full recovery of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, peaceful coexistence in the future with Russia, and security guarantees by many countries that have been given since 1994 through the signing of the Budapest Memorandum by several nuclear countries”.

He said, “So, Ukraine’s victory is the full restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the withdrawal of Russian military forces from Ukraine, and the end of all problems caused by Russia on Ukrainian territory, especially in hospitals and vital infrastructure. And of course, the return of Ukrainian citizens who have been forcibly displaced from Ukrainian territories to Russia”.

The Ukrainian ambassador also addressed his country’s position on the Moroccan Sahara, stating that “Kiev supports the unity and territorial sovereignty of Morocco and considers the autonomy plan as a serious and realistic basis for resolving the Sahara conflict”.

He said, “Ukraine aspires to build a grain storage platform, with a capacity of up to 50 million tons, which will be a resource for African countries, and we are examining the role of the Atlantic port of Dakhla in this”.
