The inclusion of the Houthis on the EU blacklist is a support for legitimacy in Yemen
The Arab Parliament welcomed Houthi’s inclusion on the European Union’s blacklist, saying the decision “supports Yemeni legitimacy”.
The Old Continent bloc’s decision was made under UN Security Council Resolution 2624, and should be implemented by all UN member states in accordance with the organization’s charter, which designated Houthi militias as a terrorist group for the first time.
Under the new sanctions, the European Union is freezing the assets of Houthi militias and banning the provision of funding, in a move that coincides with a February 28 UN Security Council resolution that designated pro-Iranian militias as terrorist groups.
The Arab Parliament said that this decision is a support for Yemeni legitimacy and a new and important step to put an end to the terrorist terrorist acts carried out by the Houthi rebel militia, the humanitarian violations and war crimes against innocent civilians the Yemeni people, in addition to targeting Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates with drones, as well as directly threatening the security of international navigation in the Red Sea region.
The Arab parliament called on countries to build on this step to stop the continuous crimes of terrorist militias.
The Arab Parliament reiterated its firm position and its permanent support for all Arab and international efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political settlement to the Yemeni crisis, based on the three terms of reference: the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative and its operational mechanisms, the outputs of the comprehensive national dialog, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
On Thursday, the UAE welcomed the decision of the Council of the European Union to amend Regulation (EU) No. 1352/2014 to adopt the arms embargo on the Houthi terrorist militia approved by the United Nations.
