The last cards.. Erdogan trying to control Libya and make it the last stronghold of the Muslim Brotherhood
In an attempt to improve his image and create false victories, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is seeking to host a meeting between the President of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh Issa, the President of the High Council of State, Khalid al-Mishri, and representatives of the Libyan House of Representatives, according to the African Intelligence website.
The meetings are an attempt by the Turkish regime to regain Turkish control over the Libyan crisis, especially after the collapse of the Muslim Brotherhood in Tunisia and the difficulty of penetrating Arab African countries except through the last gate in Libya.
The African website, confirmed that Turkey claimed that it wants to put an end, or end, to the dispute between Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh and his designated successor, Fathi Bashagha. It pointed out that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is seeking to regain control of the Libyan crisis, in light of international attempts to hold presidential and parliamentary elections and establish a Libyan government away from the militias, which means that Erdogan lost control of his last cards in North Africa, after the collapse of the rule of the Muslim Brotherhood, Erdogan’s arm in the region in both Egypt and Tunisia.
International reports revealed a few days ago that the Turkish government continues to pour weapons and materiel into Libya, in flagrant violation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions that imposed sanctions on arms transfers to the war-torn North African country. In a report submitted to the Security Council on May 24, 2022, UN investigators concluded that the Turkish government continues to violate UN sanctions by transferring military material and providing lethal training to Libyan factions.
The UN also assessed that most of the military training provided by Turkey to GNU forces is subject to the sanctions regime and thus violates UN Resolution 1970 (2011), stating: “The report stressed that the UN Security Council has banned combat training, special forces training and sniper training. The UN also noted that the airlift the Turkish Air Force established between Turkey and Libya to help the government of national unity was also a violation, and at least 33 flights of Airbus A400M operated by the Turkish Air Force delivered an estimated 1,221 tons of cargo between May 2021 and March 2022, despite a 62 percent drop in Turkish military cargo flights to Libya compared to the previous period”.
