World Health Organization” warns of a new global threat

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of a widespread outbreak of monkeypox in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

“Vampire” virus leaves scientists

The United Nations organization, based in Geneva, announced on Friday that more than 13,000 suspected cases and over 600 deaths related to the disease have occurred in Congo between January and mid-November.

Global Threat WHO expert Rosamund Lewis stated that the spread of the disease poses a risk to citizens in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, neighboring countries, and worldwide. The World Health Organization is working with authorities in Congo to expand testing capacity and bring vaccines to the country.

According to Lewis, the increasing spread of the disease is linked to sexual practices. Due to numerous border crossings between Congo and neighboring countries, the WHO is concerned about the viral disease spreading in the region.

The World Health Organization is also concerned because, for the first time, it has been discovered that the strain of monkeypox virus circulating in Congo can be transmitted through sexual activity.

However, Lewis warned that there are still risks associated with gatherings of people. She pointed out, for example, a patient who returned to Europe infected with monkeypox after a cruise in Asia for sexually active gay men in November, reporting multiple cases appearing on the ship.
