Signs of uprising against the Brotherhood in Marib… Details

The eastern Yemeni province of Marib is witnessing the beginnings of a tribal uprising against the local authorities led by the Yemeni Congregation for Reform, the arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen. This reflects the prevailing frustration and anger in the province due to the mismanagement of its resources by the authorities. Civilian and military leaders of the party have overstepped by exploiting public funds and extorting merchants and project owners using their political and security influence.

Tensions in Marib have escalated after tribal gunmen detonated the crude oil pipeline connecting the Safer and Jannah fields in protest against rising fuel prices. According to local sources cited by the Third Eye website, the deadline set by Marib’s tribes for the local authorities to reverse the decision to raise fuel prices has expired without a response. This prompted armed individuals to detonate the crude oil pipeline, leading to a massive fire.

The pipeline explosion occurred after a statement urged all merchants and contractors with properties near the Safer facility to evacuate within just two days. It also called on facility workers to leave and shut it down, asking citizens to stay at least 20 kilometers away from the facility’s western side to avoid endangering their lives.

Armed tribal elements attacked militias affiliated with the Reform Party days ago, blocking the road for crude oil and its derivatives transport trucks. They set up an ambush in the Wadi area, resulting in the death of four soldiers from the party’s forces.

Marib province has been witnessing repeated protests against the local authority affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, criticizing its policies that exacerbate the suffering of citizens, especially the rise in fuel prices. These protests indicate that the situation in Marib may escalate further, given the local authority’s failure to resolve the crisis.

Marib tribes have been complaining about the tight control of the Reform Party over the oil-rich province, alleging that they have not benefited from its revenues. They accuse the party’s leaders of seizing the majority of those returns under the banner of submitting oil wealth to internationally recognized authority.

Marib tribes have threatened further escalation against the province’s authorities led by prominent Reform Party member Sultan Al-Arada if the governor does not respond to their demands to cancel the fuel price increase.
