Spread of Waterborne Typhoid in Egyptian Schools… What’s the truth?
The Ministry of Education in Egypt announced receiving a report indicating the spread of waterborne typhoid among students in some schools.
Local media reported that the Ministry of Education and Technical Education addressed the educational directorates in all provinces regarding the spread of waterborne typhoid in several schools.
The central operations room at the ministry received a report confirming the disease’s spread among students. The ministry instructed the implementation of all precautionary and preventive measures, as well as educating students on how to prevent waterborne typhoid.
In Giza Governorate, the Director of Education, Ashraf Salouma, issued an urgent administrative order for the general directors of educational administrations to follow instructions during the exam period, sanitize schools daily, and provide additional equipped isolation rooms.
The Director of Education in Giza emphasized the necessity of providing a health visitor in schools during the exam period, maintaining physical distance among students, and alerting parents to ensure that each student brings a personal “mask.”
On his part, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Shadi Zalata, stated that the communication aims to take the usual precautionary measures to confront infectious diseases accompanying the winter season, such as waterborne typhoid. He added in press statements that these measures are routine with the start of exams and do not reflect the spread of any specific diseases, noting coordination with the Ministry of Health in case of any reported cases.
