Xi’an People’s Hospital in Shaanxi Province announced that the mother, identified only by the surname “Li,” delivered a boy and a girl via cesarean section, according to CNN.

Although the birth took place last month, Li’s story recently garnered attention on Chinese social media, racking up more than 50 million views and receiving numerous messages of congratulations and support.

The hospital clarified in a post on the Chinese platform Weibo that pregnancies involving twins in two separate wombs are extremely rare, and it is unusual for such pregnancies to reach full term.

Li was born with a condition called “uterus didelphys,” which affects one in every 2,000 women. Despite the challenges she faced in fulfilling her dream of becoming a mother, including a previous miscarriage, she successfully conceived again last January.

Ultrasound examinations revealed that she was carrying twins, each developing in a different uterus.

After careful medical monitoring, Li delivered a boy weighing 7 pounds and 19 ounces, and a girl weighing 5 pounds and 30 ounces, in a successful birth that was widely celebrated in China.
