Dbeibeh give a surprise to the Libyans by his announcement of an expanded national unity cabinet
Prime Minister-designate Abdulhamid Dbeibeh made a surprise to the Libyans by his declaration of an expanded national unity government. He said in comments on Friday that the cabinet would be included 35 ministers.
Indeed, the group would be presented to parliament on Monday for voting, and the legislature would gather in the central city of Sirte. The cabinet would include 27 minister who would hold portfolios and six ministers of state.
Dbeibeh promised to give the ministers the priority to improve services provided to the people, also the unification of state institutions and holding elections.
It should indicate that the PM has only until March 19 to obtain the parliament’s vote of confidence before starting the most challenging part of his mission that is unifying institutions and directing the transitional phase until the making of elections in December 24. Dbeibeh has separated the cabinet into seven sovereign and 14 service portfolios and six state ministers.
The formation affirmed a preceding Asharq Al-Awsat report that stated that Khaled Mazen would be nominated as interior minister, and Government of National Accord (GNA) Interior Minister, Fathi Bashagha, would no keep in his post, although the support from Washington and Ankara.
Dbeibeh also appointed Lamia Bosidera, as a foreign minister. He would work as a defense minister, similar to his predecessor GNA chief Fayez al-Sarraj.
