Opening of Liaison Offices Officially in Tel Aviv and Rabat in the Coming Period
The Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat expects Israel and Morocco to exchange the official opening of offices in both countries in the next few weeks.
David Joffrin said : “We expect that the liaison offices will be officially opened in Tel Aviv and Rabat in the coming period, that is, in a few weeks time.”
He added : “I believe that the opening will take place at the same time after the Jewish Passover” next April.
Goffrin, who was speaking to the Moroccan newspaper Hespress, revealed that an Israeli administrative and security delegation is expected to visit Morocco to inaugurate the direct flight line between the two countries.
He pointed out that Israel and Morocco had signed an agreement to organize direct flights between the two countries. Direct flights were supposed to start at the beginning of next April, but their start date was postponed because of the Coronavirus pandemic”.
In an interview with Al-Ain Al-Ekhbariya, he pointed out that he expects an official Israeli delegation to visit Morocco to start consultations and discussions with the Moroccan side in this regard.
The Israeli diplomat continued : “This is a security and administrative delegation, in order to arrange all the procedures related to these flights, of course, at the level of personnel”.
Goffrin said that the debate in the Moroccan arena about the resumption of diplomatic relations between Israel and Morocco is “normal”.
But he added, “Of course the debate continues, but the overwhelming majority of Moroccans undoubtedly support the resumption of relations between Israel and Morocco”.
In this regard, Joffrin considered that the signing of the tripartite Israeli-Moroccan-American agreement on resuming relations by the Moroccan Prime Minister, Saâdeddine El Othmani, despite the fact that his party opposed the agreement is an expression of “pragmatism” in part of the leaders of this party.
He ruled out the withdrawal of the current American administration from the tripartite agreement signed by the previous administration, which included American recognition of the Maghreb of Sahara : “I believe that the new American administration will not back down from this tripartite agreement.”
He pointed out that “what is intended is a single package, and as the American administrations have known throughout American history, supported peaceful relations between Israel and the Arabs in general, especially peaceful relations between Israel and Morocco”.
The Israeli diplomat said : “For this reason, I am convinced that the American administration supports and supports peaceful relations between Israel and Morocco,” he said, ruling out a scenario in which Morocco would retreat from the relationship with Israel in the event the United States declines to recognize the Moroccan Sahara.
The Israeli diplomat denied any relation with the Amazigh-Moroccan movement, although it described the return of relations with Israel as a “historic victory.” He said: “I have no connection to the Berber movement.. This movement is a political one, and as the state of Israel and as its representative in Morocco, I will not interfere in internal affairs”.
He said Israel and Morocco could cooperate in renewable energy, water, agriculture, tourism, trade and the economy.
Last January, the Israeli government ratified the agreement to establish diplomatic relations between Israel and Morocco.
On December 10, former US President Donald Trump announced a peace agreement between Morocco and Israel.
Under the agreement, Morocco would establish full diplomatic relations, resume official contacts with Israel, allow flights, arrivals and flights between the two countries.
Israel and Morocco opened diplomatic offices in Rabat and Tel Aviv in the 1990s until 2000.
