Brotherhood Leader Admits: Al-Islah Party Is Responsible for the Taiz Catastrophe

Abdullah Al-Odaini, a member of parliament and senior figure in the Al-Islah Party (the local branch of the Muslim Brotherhood), has acknowledged that the province of Taiz is effectively under the dominance of his party. He held the Islah leadership accountable for the deteriorating conditions in the liberated areas, especially the worsening water crisis.

In his Friday sermon delivered from a mosque pulpit, Al-Odaini stated plainly: “The chaos and corruption witnessed in Taiz in recent years are the result of the Islah Party’s monopolization of power in the province.”

He clarified that “Islah is the party actually running Taiz, controlling the military axis and camps, while the governor has no authority to make any decisions without the party’s leadership approval.”

Speaking in a sharply critical tone, he added: “No security or military decision is made without a green light from Al-Islah. The outcome? More chaos, collapsing services, and the silencing of free voices.”

He concluded by saying: “It is time to call things by their names. Taiz is being held hostage by a party that sees the state as nothing more than a shield for its own interests and power as mere spoils.”

Al-Odaini’s remarks cannot be dismissed as personal opinion. They are a clear sign of widening internal fractures within the Al-Islah Party after years of controlling the political and military landscape in Taiz.

The fact that a senior leader admits the party is running the province, failing public services, and suppressing dissent indicates that voices are beginning to disown the Brotherhood’s legacy in the city, attempting to place the blame for persistent failure squarely on the current leadership.
