Tunisia: Opposition appeals Ghannouchi to leave

Tunisian MP of National Bloc Ayachi Zammel appealed President Kais Saied and Speaker Rached Ghannouchi to present concessions to resolve the political crisis in the country.

Zammel called the president to instantly declare a national political discussion to debate a new constitution or modify the present one and review the electoral law. He also requested Ghannouchi to leave for the best interest of Tunisia, indicating that this would serve his long political career, and also save the country.

In the meantime, the president of the Republican People’s Union Party, Lotfi al-Maraih affirmed the necessity for the quiet at the level of the three presidencies, alerting that such situation could not keep with a government that don’t have a courageous vision to resolve the social, economic, and health crisis.

Maraih also noted that the president should modify his positions, adding that he must not joint just a side as a party that unifies all Tunisians. He also said that the political sides are not aware of the seriousness of the current situation in Tunisia.

Ennahda defends the head of state

Moreover, the Chief of Ennahda Shura Council, Abdelkarim Harouni, described the president as a dictator in the making, with the support of the parliament’s minority and foreign forces. He also affirmed that Ennahda protects the head of state, and noting that the movement is not frightened of the president, however; it worries about him.

Previously, the president rejected to welcome the new ministers for constitutional oath after the ministerial modification made by Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi.

Besides, Harouni criticized Mechichi for the fact that he is not activating the ministerial reshuffle that involved the 11 ministers. Mechichi should act upon his constitutional capacity and complete the lasting steps that lead to the approval of ministers.
