Ukraine without electricity as Moscow destroys missile depot
Ukrainian authorities announced power outages across many regions of the country following Russian strikes, while Moscow reported the destruction of a missile storage facility.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy stated on Telegram that “Russia is once again attacking our energy infrastructure. As a result, emergency power outages have begun in several regions of Ukraine.”
The grid operator Ukrenergo, for its part, reported “a missile and drone attack,” noting that repair work would begin as soon as the security situation allows.
No casualties have been reported.
Meanwhile, Sergey Lebedev, coordinator of the underground resistance in Ukraine’s southern Mykolaiv region, said that Russian forces had destroyed a Ukrainian missile depot at the Martinovskyi military airfield in the city of Voznesensk.
A source within the Russian forces also told the Russian news agency Sputnik that an attempted counteroffensive by assault units of the 119th Territorial Defense Brigade of the Ukrainian armed forces had been thwarted in the Krasnopillia area of the Sumy region.
According to the source, “the enemy launched a counterattack in the Krasnopillia area using armored vehicles, but it failed and the forces retreated to their original positions after suffering losses.”
The same source added that the Ukrainian armed forces had deployed two assault groups from the independent 119th Territorial Defense Brigade in armored combat vehicles to carry out the counteroffensive.
Russian forces stated that “the two groups were reinforced by communications personnel and air defense specialists from the 96th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade.”
Diplomatic developments
On Monday, Moscow reported “slow” progress in talks with the United States on a plan to end the war in Ukraine, while condemning “malicious” attempts to undermine the process. These remarks followed discussions held over the weekend in Miami, which failed to break the deadlock.
Russian state media quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov as saying, “We are seeing slow progress, accompanied by extremely damaging and highly malicious attempts by a group of influential countries to obstruct these efforts and derail the diplomatic process.”
He praised US President Donald Trump’s efforts to find “sustainable solutions that address the root causes of the conflict,” while criticizing the European position toward Washington’s plan, which was presented about a month ago and has been under negotiation since then.
A new round of talks on the US plan took place in Florida over the weekend, including separate meetings between American officials and the Russian and Ukrainian envoys.
This latest round of negotiations did not result in tangible progress, although the United States and Ukraine described the discussions as “constructive.”
