Latest news on the war against Iran: Israeli strikes west of Tehran and in southern Lebanon
The Iranian and Lebanese fronts have witnessed simultaneous escalation in military operations after the Israeli army announced the launch of a large wave of strikes targeting sites in western Iran, alongside attacks in the southern suburbs of Beirut following urgent warnings calling for the evacuation of several neighborhoods.
The Israeli military said in a statement that it had begun “a wide wave of strikes targeting infrastructure belonging to the Iranian regime in western Iran,” as part of the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war against Tehran.
Warning to residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs
In Lebanon, Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued an urgent warning to residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs, calling on them to evacuate several neighborhoods immediately.
The warning included the areas of Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, Laylaki, Hadath, Bourj el-Barajneh, Tahwitat al-Ghadir, and Chiyah.
Adraee stated that Hezbollah’s activities “force the Israeli army to act against it with strength,” urging residents to leave those areas and not return until further notice.
He added that the Israeli army “will not hesitate to target anyone present near Hezbollah members, facilities, or combat assets.”
Previous strikes in Lebanon
The Israeli military had earlier announced that it carried out a wave of strikes targeting Hezbollah sites in several Lebanese regions, including rocket launch positions in the Al-Qatrani area in southern Lebanon.
It also said it destroyed command centers belonging to the “Radwan Force” unit in Beirut.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported that three people were killed in an Israeli strike targeting the village of Al-Qatrani in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese National News Agency also reported that another strike targeted an apartment in a residential building in the Al-Sharhabeel area northeast of the city of Sidon, killing at least one person and causing a fire in the apartment.
An Agence France-Presse correspondent reported that the strike caused significant destruction on the third floor of the building, while residents of the area, including women and children, rushed into the streets.
Expansion of the confrontation
The confrontation in Lebanon has expanded since March 2, when Hezbollah launched rockets toward Israel in response to the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the first day of the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran.
Since then, Israel has responded with intensive strikes on positions in Lebanon, in addition to military operations in the south of the country.
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have killed 826 people since the beginning of the war.
Border clashes
Hezbollah announced that it targeted gatherings of Israeli soldiers near border villages, including a position opposite the town of Meiss el-Jabal.
Reports also indicated artillery shelling targeting the town of Al-Khiam overnight.
Diplomatic efforts
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun proposed an initiative to negotiate with Israel in order to reach a truce or ceasefire.
An official source said preparations are underway to form a Lebanese delegation for negotiations, although no date or location has yet been set for the talks.
French President Emmanuel Macron also called on Israel to hold direct talks with Lebanon, expressing Paris’s readiness to facilitate and host such negotiations.
