A new terrorist incident in Nigeria claimed the lives of 29 people in Adamawa State.
The governor of Nigeria’s Adamawa State said on Monday that gunmen killed at least 29 people in an attack on a residential settlement in the state.
Local officials and community leaders stated that the assailants stormed the settlement late on Sunday night and opened intermittent fire for several hours, resulting in the deaths of residents and the destruction of property.
The terrorist organization Islamic State later claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement posted on the Telegram application.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri confirmed the death toll during a visit to the town of Giako in the Gombi Local Government Area, where he offered condolences to the victims’ families and described the incident as tragic and unacceptable.
He noted that the state government is working with security agencies to prevent further attacks and restore normal life.
