From the Bottom of the Sea: Trump’s Latest Message to Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump has sent a new message to Iran through his social media platform, Truth Social.
Trump posted an artificial intelligence-generated video depicting Iranian warships sunk beneath the sea, accompanied by the caption: “The Iranian Navy.”
The U.S. president has repeatedly claimed that he destroyed Iran’s naval forces during the most recent joint war conducted with Israel against Iran.
In an interview with NBC News’ Meet the Press, Trump also stated that “Iran has no other choice” but eventually reach an agreement.
He said: “There are things they never imagined they would have to do, but they will do them. They have no other option. It just takes some time.”
The two sides reached a ceasefire agreement last April, which has been extended several times. However, tensions have resurfaced in recent days following an exchange of strikes between the United States and Iran near the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump and senior members of his administration continue to defend the war that began with U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran, arguing that it was necessary to prevent the Iranian regime from developing a nuclear weapon.
During the interview, Trump criticized those urging him to move more quickly toward an agreement with Iran, saying: “These things take years,” before adding: “These people have been fighting for forty-seven years. They have killed Americans,” referring to the Iranian leadership.
Trump asserted that the United States had “almost completely destroyed Iran’s military capabilities,” while acknowledging that Tehran still retains part of its missile and drone arsenal.
He stated: “Most of the drone manufacturing facilities, most of the launch platforms, and most of the missile production sites have been destroyed. But they still retain some capabilities.”
He added: “I estimate that they now possess only about 21% to 22% of the missile stockpile they had at the beginning of the war. That is still a significant number, but it is not what it was when we launched the initial attacks.”
