Syrian Security Forces Foil Escape Attempt by Abu Alaa Jawiya
Syrian security authorities have announced that they thwarted an attempt by Osama Mahmoud Hamouda, known as “Abu Alaa Jawiya,” to flee the country.
According to a statement published on the Ministry of Interior’s account on X, security forces successfully prevented the escape of First Warrant Officer Osama Mahmoud Hamouda, a member of the intelligence services of former President Bashar al-Assad, who was attempting to leave the country.
The ministry stated that investigations revealed that Abu Alaa Jawiya was involved in several violations, most notably leading groups that carried out arbitrary arrests, resulting in the detention of numerous civilians in prisons and detention facilities.
Authorities also alleged that he was responsible for preparing and submitting malicious security reports during his period of service.
The ministry further stated that the detainee is accused of involvement in large-scale financial extortion operations targeting citizens.
According to the statement, investigations are still ongoing in order to complete the necessary legal procedures before referring him to the competent judicial authorities, which will review the charges brought against him.
