Algeria: 46 suspects arrested in the crime of burning young “savage”
The French-language newspaper, El Watan, has confirmed the arrest of 46 people on suspicion of involvement in the killing of a young man they thought was involved in starting fires.
“The security services have begun searching for 12 other people who were included in the crime investigation and appeared in the videos that circulated on social media,” the newspaper said.
Last Thursday, the Office of the Attorney General in Algiers ordered the judicial police to open an investigation into the circumstances of the killing of a citizen by burning to death by a group of youths in the state of Tizi Ouzou, the state most affected by the forest fires, because of their belief that he was involved in starting fires.
A few hours after the youth’s video broke out, a group of people responded from Miliana, in the wilaya of Medea, to which the murdered youth belonged. They confirmed that the victim was the son of their city and that he was a musical artist who had moved to the affected area to help the residents put out the fire, loaded with ammunition.
Public opinion is demanding that the authorities punish those who contributed to the “brutal” operation.
