Houthis Claim Control of Rashad Al-Alimi’s Home in His Native Taiz

Platforms affiliated with Yemen’s Houthi militias have announced that they have taken control of the home of Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi in Taiz province.

Earlier on Monday, Houthi forces seized the Al-Aaloum area, where Al-Alimi’s residence is located, in Taiz province, approximately 256 kilometres south-west of Sanaa.

Hundreds of Houthi fighters launched an attack on Al-Aaloum in Al-Mawaset district, in rural Taiz, from the early hours of the day.

Local sources said that Houthi forces captured Al-Alimi’s home following fierce clashes with Yemeni forces and local residents in Al-Mawaset district, situated in the heart of the historic Al-Hujariya region.

The seizure of Al-Alimi’s residence in Al-Aaloum came one day after the Houthis captured the home of Yemeni Parliament Speaker Sheikh Sultan Al-Barakani and took control of Al-Turbah, the administrative centre of Al-Hujariya and the second-largest city in Taiz province.

The development follows the imposition of a complete Houthi siege on the city of Taiz in anticipation of a military operation being conducted by the Southern Giants Brigades along the province’s coastline, particularly around Bab Al-Mandeb and Dhubab district.

Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi launched the “Dawn of Yemen” military operation with the stated aim of restoring state institutions, recapturing the capital Sanaa and ending the Houthi militias’ seizure of power.

Yemen has witnessed intense fighting since the beginning of September, following a large-scale, multi-front Houthi offensive against areas along the western coast and around Bab Al-Mandeb. The fighting has resulted in thousands of deaths and injuries.
