Kadhimi: Attempts to Drag Iraq into Axis of Conflict Have Been Foiled
Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said his government has succeeded at dodging all kinds of attempts that planned to drag his country into an “axis of conflict.”
Kadhimi said during the Cabinet session on Thursday that he will personally supervise the security during Iraq’s early parliamentary elections.
He said he will make sure not to allow any transgressions that would affect the path of the elections or their results.
“The government has kept its pledge regarding the elections, we have provided all the support and requirements needed for The Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq, which was hosted several times,” stated Kadhimi according to a statement released by the Iraqi government.
He said that the government has formed commissions to monitor any transgression by candidates and parties, which if proven will be referred to the judiciary and to the electoral commission.
“There are many positives in the government’s work, but there are some shortcomings. Our main goal was to hold early elections and provide the appropriate atmosphere for that, but we also took bold measures to correct the situation and put Iraq on the right path,” added Kadhimi.
“Iraq has been able to overcome financial, health, economic and security crises, and also managed to thwart attempts of driving Iraq into an axis of conflict,” concluded the PM.
