“War of Booby-Traps”: Houthi’s Militia and the Muslim Brotherhood undermine Aden’s Security

Several times, the war Aden is facing is unfolding, with the aim of presenting Yemen’s temporary capital as an “unsafe” city, following the Houthi and Brotherhood agendas.

The car bombings in the governorate of Aden cannot be ignored, immediately after visits by European and international delegations that have made the city a resting place for its recent diplomatic movements.

Yemeni political analysts said that the movement, which has given Aden its utmost importance, did not appeal to the Houthi militias and the Brotherhood. Both parties strove to use their tools to portray the city as unpeaceful.

“Indeed, the Houthis and the Brotherhood’s attempts were very clear, resulting in three consecutive terrorist bombings within a period of less than one month”, observers said.

The beginning was the At-Tawahi bombing in early October, which targeted the assassination of the governor of Aden, Ahmed Hamid Lamlas, and the Minister of Fisheries, Major General Salem Al-Soqatry, shortly after the first visit of the United Nations envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to Aden. This led to the death of six of the escorts of Yemeni officials and the injury of dozens of others, including two journalists and civilians.

The operation, which drew international and regional condemnation, was followed by the explosion at the outer gate of Aden International Airport, which killed five civilians and injured more than 30 others, including children and women, and also followed the visit of a delegation of European Union ambassadors to Aden.

The latest bombing, last Tuesday in Aden, which killed journalist Rasha Abdullah and injured her husband, photojournalist Mahmoud al-Atami, was no less horrific than the previous one. It also coincided with the visits to Aden of UN and US envoys Tim Linderking.

Who would benefit from “profiling Eden as unsafe”?, the answer of Yemeni political analyst Saleh Ali Baras, who says that “two terrorist projects; the Houthis and the Brotherhood and their terrorist organizations.”

Baras adds: “This kind of war chooses its time before or after any UN official’s visit to Aden, just like the recent simultaneous bombing and the visit of the US envoy to Yemen, Tim Linderking, accompanied by acting US ambassador Cathy Wesley”.

Booby-trapped warfare:

He pointed out that the so-called “booby-trapped war” is prepared and carried out by intelligence and terrorist entities, and is carried out through institutions affiliated with certain parties, in contrast to suicide bombings, which are carried out purely by terrorist organizations.

The researcher and political analyst said that if there is no evidence of the executed terrorist or extremist organizations, look for the beneficiary of these acts, and the reasons behind their execution, referring to the Houthis and the Brotherhood, and the beneficiaries of showing an unstable Aden.

The Yemeni political analyst explained this approach by the sponsors of terrorism, because they feel there is American and United Nations interest in Aden, and the international community has begun to deal with it, outside the framework of the Brotherhood and the Houthis, considering that this is a more predictable reaction on the part of Brotherhood terrorism; Because it’s stimulated internally.

The Brotherhood and the Houthis are also harmoniously trying to give the Americans and the UN the impression that terrorism will strike Aden in the presence of their delegations, and that the city will only be secured if it becomes in their “custody,” according to researcher Baras.

Obstruction of peace:

Meanwhile, Yemeni journalist Medin Muqbis says the renewed series of car bombings in Aden, most recently the car bombings of journalists Rasha Abdullah and her husband Mahmoud al-Atami, is meant to impede peace efforts.

In a post on his Facebook page, Muqbis said that the bombings coincided with international diplomatic efforts to push the parties in the conflict in Yemen towards peace, negotiations and a comprehensive political settlement to end the war.

The bombings indicate that there are those trying to obstruct humanitarian efforts to end the suffering of Yemenis, Muqbis said; all sides praise peace and call for its realization, he said, adding that those behind the bombings are trying to portray Aden as “unsafe”.
