A suspicious campaign promotes the transfer of Russia’s wealthy money to Dubai.. Why is the politicized media targeting the UAE?
Despite the UAE’s clear humanitarian stance during the war between Russia and Ukraine, many parties tried to push their suspect limbs to distort Abu Dhabi and spread allegations and lies about it. This raises many questions about the reasons for the continued targeting of the UAE in international affairs. Is it because the UAE is the best? And why would any country accuse another country of such outrageous rumors?
Over the past few hours, there has been a clear campaign, adopted by foreign websites, to spread the allegations of unknown financial and legal sources. This raises a huge suspicion, behind him, that the rich Russians are transferring some of their wealth from Europe to the Emirates.
These unknown and suspicious sources claimed that digital currency companies in the UAE received many requests to liquidate billions of dollars of cryptocurrencies in the context of the Russians’ search for a safe haven for their wealth to invest in real estate.
An executive official said that one company working in the field of digital currencies has received a number of inquiries in the past ten days from Swiss brokers to liquidate amounts in bitcoin equivalent to billions of dollars, because their customers fear that Switzerland will freeze their assets, adding that each request was not less than two billion dollars.
The Swiss Financial Markets Supervisory Authority declined to comment on the volume of digital currency transactions.
The Swiss Economic Affairs Secretariat explained in an e-mail statement that digital currency assets are subject to sanctions and measures imposed by Switzerland on Russian ordinary assets and individuals, and if restrictions affect a person, his digital currency assets will also be frozen in the country.
With the statement of the Swiss Secretariat, the opposite of the news circulating about the liquidation of Russian funds has been proved, and there is no suspicion about the United Arab Emirates as those suspicious sources were circulated and transmitted by the funded sites, which are merely allegations from the politicized targeted media.
The suspect campaign raised questions about why no other country has been accused of this, even though some of them went to several neutral countries. Why is the UAE targeted? Is it because the UAE is the best?
The Financial Times commented that the UAE’s balanced position on the Russian-Ukrainian crisis is likely to have enhanced the attractiveness of the state and Dubai specifically to wealthy Russians.
In another report, it pointed out that Dubai is a favorite destination for Russian experts and talent in the technology sector, who prefer to move to the city in order to live and work there.
Indeed, the UAE has a distinguished humanitarian position in the war crisis between Russia and Ukraine, as it has defended the established principles of the humanitarian state, confirming its permanent adoption of a vision based on diplomacy and non-alignment, and keeping the channels of dialog open. This was evident during the session devoted to discussing the Russian-Ukrainian war at the UN Security Council last month.
Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh stressed the need to comply with international law and the Charter of the United Nations as a basis for dialog, calling for calm in Ukraine and a cessation of hostilities and for diplomatic channels to remain open.
