After His Appeal, Johnny Depp Counter-Attacks
The two famous American actors and ex-husbands, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard continue to make headlines. Following the verdict rendered by the judge at the end of the trial which opposed them, the actress of Aquaman decided to appeal the court decision which obliges him to pay 10 million dollars in damages.
In her request, filed on Thursday, July 21, 2022, her lawyers indicate that she is unable to pay such an amount. However, it didn’t take long for Johnny Depp’s camp to react. Thus, the actor fantastic animals decided to counter-attack by also filing an appeal.
They want the verdict to stand
The information was made public by the site Deadline who pointed out that the singer’s request was filed yesterday Friday, July 22. “Plaintiff and Counterclaim Defendant John C. Depp, II, by Counsel, hereby appeals to the Virginia Court of Appeals from all adverse judgments and from the Order of Final Judgment of this Circuit Court rendered on June 24, 2022 » is it stated in the documents. In addition, in a statement, Johnny Depp’s lawyers expressed confidence that the verdict will be upheld.
The actress has not suffered any ” harm “ during the trial
As a reminder, Johnny Depp’s appeal comes several days after a judge decided to reject Amber Heard’s request for a new trial. The latter wanted the previous verdict to be canceled because of doubts about the identity of one of the jurors.
However, the judge Penney Azcarate felt that the actress did not suffer any harm during the trial. In her decision, she indicated that the juror in question was “approved (by both parties), stayed with the jury, deliberated and reached a verdict” while emphasizing that: “The only evidence before this court is that this juror and all the others complied with their oath, the instructions and the orders of the court. This court is bound by the competent decision of the jury”.
