Are the Muslim Brotherhood Currently Running the Scene in Syria? A Political Thinker Responds

Tharwat El-Kharbawi, a writer and political thinker, revealed that the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria is currently managing the political scene, highlighting that Abu Mohammed Al-Joulani was previously a key figure in Al-Qaeda before joining the terrorist organization ISIS.

During his interview with journalist Faten Abdel Maaboud on the program “Hall of Liberation”, broadcast on Sada El-Balad channel, El-Kharbawi stated: “The Al-Qaeda organization was founded by the Muslim Brotherhood, who are now working to incite discord and confusion by disseminating controversial messages.”

He further pointed out that the Brotherhood’s sleeper cells in Egypt are attempting to stir unrest and provoke public opinion by spreading rumors on social media. He added, “We have gone through a difficult phase in combating terrorist extremism, but we overcame it with the help of civil associations, political parties, and cultural centers that effectively educated the youth.”

El-Kharbawi remarked that some are trying to portray the political scene in Syria as one of popular revolt against authority, but in reality, the situation has been frozen. Al-Joulani now appears as a political figure, positioning himself as a modernist showing complete loyalty to the United States.

He also emphasized that the Muslim Brotherhood now possesses political, military, and intellectual arms, unlike their early days when they had no such structures. They currently lead extremist groups in the Arab region.

In conclusion, he asserted: “There are no current leaders in Syria capable of safeguarding national secrets, unlike Egypt, which has successfully protected its territory thanks to its national security and the leadership of the Egyptian intelligence services.”
