George Bush arrives in the Middle East: the United States reinforces its aircraft carriers

The aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush has arrived in the Middle East, bringing the number of U.S. aircraft carriers operating in the region to three.

On Thursday, the United States Central Command stated in a post on the X platform that the vessel was sailing “in the Indian Ocean, within the area of responsibility of U.S. Central Command, on April 23,” accompanied by an image showing its flight deck crowded with combat aircraft.

The U.S. aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford was operating on Thursday in the Red Sea, while the USS Abraham Lincoln is also active in the region, according to Central Command posts on social media.

The deployment of the third aircraft carrier to the Middle East comes amid a truce that has been ongoing for more than two weeks, which halted U.S.–Israeli airstrikes against Iran that began on February 28.

The Gerald R. Ford had recently sailed to Croatia, where repairs were carried out several weeks ago following a fire that broke out on board on March 12.

The Gerald R. Ford has been sailing for about ten months, during which it took part in U.S. operations in the Caribbean region, where strikes were carried out against boats suspected of drug trafficking and sanctioned oil tankers were intercepted.

It also participated in the U.S. military operation in Venezuela during which Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was arrested.

Each of these aircraft carriers sails accompanied by its carrier strike group.
