How did Qatar spoil the principles of sports championships? details
The Qatari government is spending hundreds of millions and exerting enormous efforts to improve its image before the international community in light of the violations it committed against hundreds of thousands of workers who are considered the main reason for Qatar’s ability to host the World Cup, which has become notorious after the many Qatari violations. According to the international website “Jee War”, Qatar’s decisions to allow Israelis to attend the World Cup does not reflect the Qatari peace environment or could erase the bad image of the regime of Tamim bin Hamad.
According to the newspaper, all Qatari international moves have not been able to erase its regrettable record in human rights, freedom of expression, and violations of the rights of hundreds of thousands of workers of different nationalities. It added that all Qatari facilities for the World Cup were constructed using migrant workers from African and Asian countries – construction workers, maids, cleaners, etc. – who live in conditions described as a form of modern slavery.
It added that the luxury hotels built in Doha and where football fans will stay, as well as the stadiums where they watch the games, were all built by workers who entered Qatar under the notorious sponsorship system, which ties them to their employers and sentences them to live in unhealthy conditions and work for poor wages.
It pointed out that the main point was that thousands of these workers were killed or severely injured while building World Cup stadiums, with little or no compensation for their families back home.
The International newspaper confirmed that Qataris had 12 years to prepare for this year’s World Cup, which was granted to them by the former President of FIFA, Sepp Blatter, in 2010. Blatter was expelled from his position in 2015 and suspended due to FIFA activities after a corruption scandal that consumed the international football organization, many of which related to the machinations and bribes that supported the Qatari offer. However, Qatar itself remained immune from the storm that rocked the FIFA headquarters in Switzerland.
It added that there was no threat at any time during the past decade between Qatar’s winning the tournament and hosting it this year by hosting another country for the 2022 World Cup. On the contrary, FIFA and its member states did their best to please the Qataris, the most prominent example of which was holding the tournament for the first time in the winter and not the summer as was the practice.
It’s good to know that high-wage football players will not be forced to go in the scorching sun, but the same cannot be said for the migrant workers who will toil during the summer months to prepare everything that starts on 21 November.
