Libyan army denied meeting of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, with the outgoing Prime Minister
The Libyan army denied on Sunday a meeting between army chief General Khalifa Haftar and outgoing prime minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh.
“The General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces denied the news circulated by some media outlets and social media about a meeting held in the United Arab Emirates between the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, Field Marshal Belqasim Haftar, and Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, Head of the Government of National Unity, and the Libyan Parliament”, the statement said.
He explained that the dissemination of such false and fabricated news is aimed at undermining the general command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces and its commander and dragging it into the political conflict currently taking place in Libya.
The statement called on all media outlets to investigate the credibility of the news before dealing with it.
Dbeibeh, who resigned from parliament, refused to hand over power to the new prime minister appointed by the Libyan parliament.
