“Noble” act by husband before death in crocodile attack

The police confirmed on Tuesday that forest rangers killed a male crocodile found 3 meters from the spot where the 40-year-old man disappeared in Cooktown last Saturday. Human remains were found inside the animal.

The doctor and his wife were enjoying an outing with their three young children when “everything changed in 30 seconds” as a section of the walking path collapsed. The doctor lost his balance and fell into the water at a spot locally known as “Croc Bend.” Despite his height, strength, and physical fitness, the slippery and steep conditions made it impossible for him to get out of the water.

His wife was nearby and, after hearing the sound of his fall into the water, she desperately tried to pull him out of the river. However, she quickly began to slip into the river herself, prompting her husband to let go of her hand out of concern for her safety. Within moments, the crocodile dragged him away.

The victim’s family stated that “the brave decision made by Dr. Hogben in that terrifying moment saved his wife’s life, ensuring she could return to their children.”
