Painful blows to the Houthis: US-British airstrikes on Sanaa and Amran
Airstrikes on Wednesday targeted military sites belonging to Houthi militias in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and Amran Governorate in the north of the country.
Local residents in Sanaa said that they heard loud explosions in the Jarban area following airstrikes on military sites of the Houthis.
The residents added that the strikes, carried out by US aircraft, targeted two Houthi military sites in the Jaryan area of Sanhan District, Sanaa. They also reported hearing fighter jets overhead during the multiple airstrikes.
Meanwhile, Yemeni sources stated that US and British aircraft launched five airstrikes targeting Houthi military positions in the Harf Sufyan District of Amran Governorate.
The US Central Command announced on Wednesday that it struck Houthi facilities used for storing conventional and advanced weapons in Yemen.
In a statement published on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter), the Central Command said it conducted multiple precision strikes against two underground storage facilities belonging to the Houthi terrorist militias in areas under their control in Yemen.
The statement noted that “the Houthis used these facilities to launch attacks on US Navy warships and commercial ships in the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.” No injuries or damages to US personnel or equipment were reported.
Previous targets
In late December, US-British airstrikes targeted a Houthi command and control facility and sites for producing and storing conventional and advanced weapons, including missiles and drones, in Sanaa. These 12 strikes hit the “May 22 Complex” in Thawrah District (maintenance camp) and the Al-Ardi complex, home to the Ministry of Defense, in the Al-Safiyah District in central Sanaa.
In November, about 29 US and British strikes targeted Houthi militia positions in Bajil, Tuhayta, Al-Soma’a, Dhi Na’im, Harf Sufyan, As-Safra, Sanhan, and the Al-Nahdain and Al-Hafa camps, according to the latest figures released by the Iranian-backed rebels.
Since November 2023, the Houthis have launched attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden from areas under their control in Yemen.
Since January 12, 2024, US and British forces have been conducting strikes as part of a military coalition aimed at curbing the Houthis’ capabilities and limiting their attacks on international shipping routes in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
