We are not easy prey… Tunisia’s president confronts the maneuvers of the Muslim Brotherhood at home and abroad

Ongoing incitement by Tunisia’s Muslim Brotherhood and their allies abroad seeks to inflame the situation and push toward chaos, in an attempt to return to the scene after a black decade at the helm of power.

The latest call for unrest came from former Tunisian president Moncef Marzouki, allied with the Muslim Brotherhood, who urged Tunisians to take to the streets to overthrow the government and also called on officials to “stage a coup” against President Kais Saied.

In response, President Kais Saied stated that his country would not be easy prey for anyone attempting to target it by various means, whether from within or from outside.

During his meeting with Prime Minister Sara Zaafrani at the Carthage Palace, the Tunisian president clarified that he is monitoring the situation throughout the day and hour across all regions of the country, stressing that “Tunisia will not be easy prey for anyone attempting to target it by various means, from within or from outside alike,” according to a statement issued by the Tunisian presidency on Thursday.

He also affirmed that “the Tunisian people need decisions, and they are coming, to lift the injustice and hardship endured by those who have suffered from impoverishment and unemployment.”

The Muslim Brotherhood organization in Tunisia is facing an unprecedented judicial and political siege, reflected in heavy prison sentences handed down to prominent leaders such as Rached Ghannouchi and Ali Larayedh, in serious cases including “sending youth to terrorist hotspots,” “political assassinations,” “the secret apparatus,” “conspiracy against state security,” and foreign financing, amid popular and parliamentary calls to ban the organization and hold it accountable.

According to observers, the Muslim Brotherhood is trying by all means to reposition itself on the scene, especially after losing its popularity following a black decade at the head of government.
