The Death of Two Officers in Houthi Attacks Sparks Fierce Battles in Taiz and Al Hudaydah
Iran-backed Houthi militias have escalated their field operations in the governorates of Taiz and Al Hudaydah, triggering intense clashes that resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
The Taiz Military Axis of the Yemeni Army announced that it had thwarted a Houthi attack targeting the Al-Dhabab front west of the governorate, an area that has been under a strict siege for nearly a decade.
The statement said that Lieutenant Ayman Abdullah of the 17th Infantry Brigade was killed while confronting the Houthi assault. The militias reportedly failed to achieve any territorial gains after suffering significant human and material losses and being forced to retreat.
On the Al Hudaydah front, a company commander and two soldiers from the Al-Zaraniq Forces of the National Resistance were killed while repelling a Houthi attack on the district of Hays.
The clashes erupted after movements by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias were detected, including attempts to deploy fighters to infiltrate elevated positions near the front lines in southern Al Hudaydah, according to a statement issued by the National Resistance.
The statement added that units of the 13th Infantry Brigade (First Al-Zaraniq Brigade) engaged the militias and forced the infiltrating elements to flee. It emphasized that all militia movements are being closely monitored and that they will not be able to achieve even the slightest breakthrough.
The fronts surrounding Hays in Al Hudaydah have witnessed ongoing hit-and-run clashes between National Resistance forces and Houthi militias. The latter are reportedly seeking a tactical breakthrough to boost the morale of their fighters.
In recent weeks, the Houthis have intensified their hostile activities across multiple fronts, committing violations that threaten to undermine a fragile United Nations-sponsored truce and raise concerns among observers about a return to square one in the conflict.
