The Netherlands Defeat Tunisia and Set Up Second-Round Clash with Morocco
The Dutch national team finished top of Group F with seven points after recording two wins and one draw.
The Netherlands defeated Tunisia 3-1 on Friday in the third and final round of the group stage, securing first place in Group F and advancing to the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup, where they will face Morocco.
The Dutch made a flying start at Kansas City Stadium, taking the lead in the third minute through an own goal by Tunisia’s Elias Skhiri. Just four minutes later, Brian Brobbey doubled the advantage by scoring the Netherlands’ second goal.
Tunisia attempted to fight back early in the second half, with Hazem Mastouri reducing the deficit in the 54th minute by scoring the Eagles of Carthage’s first goal. However, Jan Paul van Hecke restored the Netherlands’ two-goal lead by netting the third goal in the 62nd minute.
With this victory, the Netherlands finished the group stage at the top of Group F with seven points and will face Morocco, the runners-up of Group C, in the Round of 32 in Monterrey, Mexico.
Meanwhile, Tunisia exited the tournament in fourth and last place in the group without earning a single point, having suffered three consecutive defeats in what was their seventh appearance in FIFA World Cup history.
