Spain Reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final with a 2-0 Victory over France

Spain will face the winner of the second semi-final between England and Argentina in the World Cup final, scheduled for next Sunday.

Spain continued their impressive campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup by securing a deserved 2-0 victory over France in Tuesday’s semi-final, earning a place in the tournament’s final. La Roja now stand just one win away from claiming their second world title, following their historic triumph in South Africa in 2010.

The Spanish national team fully deserved the victory after imposing its style of play throughout the match, which was held in Arlington, Texas. Through outstanding tactical discipline and excellent organization across every area of the pitch, Spain successfully neutralized France’s attacking threats and confirmed its place among the tournament’s top two teams.

The match began evenly, with both sides competing for control of midfield. Spain broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when the referee awarded a penalty after defender Lucas Digne fouled rising star Lamine Yamal inside the penalty area. Mikel Oyarzabal confidently converted the spot kick, giving La Roja a deserved lead before halftime.

After the break, Spain continued to dominate by maintaining sustained pressure on the French defense. Their quick passing and fluid collective movement repeatedly unsettled their opponents, while France struggled to create meaningful attacking opportunities against Spain’s well-organized defensive structure.

Spain’s superiority was rewarded again in the 58th minute. Dani Olmo initiated a superb attacking move before delivering a perfectly weighted pass to Pedro Porro, who raced clear of the defense and calmly beat goalkeeper Mike Maignan with a powerful finish to secure his team’s victory.

Despite France’s attempts to mount a comeback during the closing stages, Spain’s defense remained composed and resilient until the final whistle, allowing virtually no genuine opportunities for their opponents to alter the outcome.

Spain will face the winner of the second semi-final between England and Argentina in Sunday’s final at New York/New Jersey Stadium. France, meanwhile, will compete in the third-place playoff against the loser of that same semi-final.

The victory crowns an outstanding tournament for Spain. Their campaign began with a goalless draw against Cape Verde before they bounced back with an emphatic 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia and followed it with a narrow 1-0 victory over Uruguay to finish at the top of their group.

In the knockout stage, Spain maintained their outstanding form by defeating Austria 3-0 in the Round of 32, eliminating Portugal with a 1-0 victory in the Round of 16, and overcoming Belgium 2-1 in the quarter-finals, further establishing themselves as one of the strongest contenders for the world title.

France, meanwhile, concluded their campaign after an impressive run that saw them top their group with consecutive victories over Senegal, Iraq, and Norway. Les Bleus then defeated Sweden in the Round of 32, Paraguay in the Round of 16, and Morocco in the quarter-finals before being eliminated by a Spanish side that produced one of the tournament’s most complete performances and now stands just one victory away from lifting the FIFA World Cup trophy for the second time in its history.
