Tunisia is cleansing itself of terrorism… Arrest of the Ennahdha movement’s media secretary

Tunisia is continuing its vast campaign to cleanse the country of the conspiracy and terrorism of the Muslim Brotherhood, with the arrest of Abdelfattah Tagouty, Ennahdha’s media officer, by a National Guard patrol in Ben Arous (North) province, in a case of conspiracy against state security involving more than 80 people.

Combating terrorism

This comes in light of the order of the Public Prosecution in the judicial branch of combating terrorism (a specialized court), to imprison Mohamed Fourati, director of the newspaper “Dawn” which speaks for the Renaissance Movement, for a period of five days, which can be extended, as well as the detention of a number of Brotherhood leaders, foremost among them Abdelhamid Jelassi, a Brotherhood leader and former parliamentarian, Kamel Eltaïef, a Tunisian businessman, in addition to Fawzi Al-Faqih, in the case of conspiring against the security of the state and attempting to overthrow the government.

Conspiracy against the state

Tunisian President Kais Saied said that these individuals were plotting against the security of the state and planning and preparing to assassinate the head of state while they were under the protection of security, adding that “this is about the life of the state and the future of the people, and they are talking about measures.”

This comes after a “divergent group” of parties in Tunisia attempted to overthrow the government by inflaming the social situation and causing chaos at night, taking advantage of some parties inside the presidential palace. But Tunisian security and intelligence forces were able to thwart this plan by tracking their calls, contacts, and steps, so that the Turks’ tent – the Brotherhood’s preferred name for Kais Saied’s succession – turned out to be the link.

Serious charges

Dr. Mondher Guefrach, a Tunisian political analyst, says that there are many charges going after these terrorists involved in plotting against the state, and that the campaign of arrests carried out by the Tunisian security forces against politicians, members of the Muslim Brotherhood, businessmen collaborating with them, and isolated judges are related to conspiracy against the state security and financial corruption.

The defendants are accused of ties to foreign intelligence services, attempting to overthrow the government, inciting against the state and plotting to destabilize security, he said, noting that the case files contained serious charges and crimes against the Tunisian people, particularly in relation to “food terrorism”.
