Tunisia: The Ghannouchi Brotherhood leader dreams of returning to power

The obsession of power makes the leader of the Tunisian Muslim Brotherhood clinging to the dream of returning to the political scene, capitalizing on the absence of the president, in a final attempt at bargaining.

Rached Ghannouchi; The Sheik, who could not comprehend the transformation caused by presidential decisions months ago, freezing the work of the parliament he led and removing the prime minister loyal to him, Hichem Mechichi, is moving on the path of intransigence in an attempt to inflame the situation in search of a lost pressure card.

On Thursday evening, Ghannouchi claimed that “the parliament is returning” in a speech he delivered during a meeting of politicians opposed to the policies of President Kais Saied.
Ghannouchi took the opportunity of Saied’s absence from the country as part of his participation in the 6th session of the Euro-African Summit held in the Belgian capital Brussels. He organized a meeting at the headquarters of the so-called “citizens against the coup”, which is the headquarters of the Tunisian Will Party for its president, Moncef Marzouki.

The meeting brought together Brotherhood and allied figures as part of a deal to try to pressure Saied and back into power.
According to Ghannouchi, the head of state lost the wealth he had acquired on July 25, which indicates he lacks wisdom. He accused Saied of bringing the country to bankruptcy, and recalled that Ennahdha had given him 500,000 or 600,000 votes in the presidential elections. He explained that what Saied is doing indicates that he has no future.
Ghannouchi’s remarks drew the ire of social media users in Tunisia, who considered him an incitement to Tunisia and a challenge to Said’s decisions.

Tunisian political activist Al Moez Al Hajj Mansour said that Rached Ghannouchi spoke confidently and said that the frozen parliament will return despite the fact that the parliament was buried politically in the cemetery of history six months ago.

He continued: “As a matter of fact, Sheik we advised Rached Ghannouchi to go away to worship and praise God for the remaining days he has.. But he didn’t.. And how we criticized his experience of ruling for 10 years.. We criticized his policies and choices, his alliance with the corrupt, and his submission to international banks”.

He added: “But Ghannouchi still clings to the power after he made Ennahdha lose all popularity, and after he lost the seat of government in the parliament, and all that he made collapsed with no resistance whatsoever except statements and some demonstrations.. After he took part in the bankruptcy of the treasury and the impoverishment of an entire people”.

As for him, Munir el-Hani said, Ghannouchi knows that the seat of parliament which he headed ended up in the dustbin of history. He pointed out that most of the deputies who were there were separated and a number of them fled abroad, and there are those who have corruption files.

He concluded: “It is true that the parliament will return, but in a new way that is different from what we have experienced in the past, a parliament we have never seen before, and will be called the ‘legislative council’ whose members will be elected next December”.
