UN mission: We document violations in Tripoli..
After three days of bloody clashes in the Libyan capital Tripoli that drew condemnation, the UN fact-finding mission confirmed its documentation of all violations.
The UN Independent Fact-Finding Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said in a statement, that it documented all the violations that took place in the past period, stressing that they entail international criminal responsibility to ensure the safety and protection of civilians.
The UN mission stressed the importance of documenting violations inside Libya under its mandate to investigate any violations that have occurred on Libyan territory since 2016, calling on all Libyan parties to refrain from violence.
While warning against serious violations of human rights and law, the statement said it deeply regretted the return of violence in Tripoli and other areas politically motivated.
Last Friday, violent clashes erupted between armed militias in the residential area of Souk al-Tulata, sparking panic among citizens and sparking a wave of local and international condemnation.
Armed columns, armed with artillery and tanks, poured out of Misrata, al-Zawiya and Zentan and set up near the outskirts of Tripoli in the midst of an on-going alert and on-going patrols in the area, warning of armed clashes, experts said.
In March, the Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Libya published a report noting that violations of the law, including intimidation and harassment of activists, attacks on the judiciary, and mass violations against vulnerable groups, are affecting the democratic transition.
